The world, brewing

How to read this

For seven centuries almost nothing moves; then the nineteenth century arrives and the map fills faster than anyone alive at the time could have followed. Time here runs at the speed of the evidence, quickly through empty centuries and slowly through crowded ones, so the slider is to scale and the playback is not.

Only what can be dated is drawn: 535 breweries with a sourced founding year, and 151 beers whose first-brewed year is known, out of 20,793. They are two different facts and are counted apart. A brewery is drawn in the town its beers come from, and only when they all come from one: 601 entries have a light, and 77 breweries count toward their country without one.

20,642 further beers have no recorded start year and cannot be placed in time. They are still browsable and searchable everywhere else.
