Sour wheat beer seasoned with salt and coriander. It takes its name from Goslar, where it began, and was adopted by Leipzig, which had more than eighty Gose taverns by 1900. At least half the grain is malted wheat, the sourness is from Lactobacillus, and it is usually 4 to 5% ABV. Production stopped twice in the twentieth century before it was revived.
